Eye pain, or discomfort on, in, behind, or around the eye, can be unilateral or bilateral. This means you can experience pain in your right, left or both eyes. In some cases, the cause of eye pain is obvious but in others, it can be difficult to determine. On top of that, the severity of eye pain doesn’t necessarily indicate how serious the underlying issue is.
Eye pain symptoms include:
· A sharp, stabbing sensation
· Burning eyes
· A dull ache
· Feeling something is “in” your eye (foreign body sensation)
Eye pain also is frequently accompanied by blurred vision, redness and sensitivity to light.
Some common causes include corneal foreign body, corneal abrasion, dry eyes, conjunctivitis, migraine, or digital strain.
