It’s February and you might think the end of winter is in sight. In many parts of the country, nothing could be further from the truth. Winter, summer, spring and fall, people should be conscious of protecting their eyes so they can continue to work for you in the future! Here are a few reminders for those of you chomping at the bit for spring!

     ·         Invest in superior outdoor eyewear. If you are going to skimp on something don’t cut corners when purchasing quality sunglasses. The best options are polarized, 100% UV-blocking sunglasses. These offer your eyes the greatest level of protection when it comes to preventing damage to your eyes and sight. They block those damaging UV rays all year round, even in the winter when most people don’t realize they are as present and harmful as during the long summer months.

     ·         Invest in ski goggles for the winter as well. Don’t leave home to hit the slopes without them. Today ski goggles can be tailored to the needs of the individual just like regular glasses. Snow can cause temporary blindness and other vision issues if you are not proactive in preventing long-term damage to your eyes. Unfortunately, experiencing a case of snow blindness is the same as getting sunburn on your eyes. It’s important to protect your eyes all year round even in the winter.

    ·         Cold air can lead to dry eyes as often as hot, arid days do. ‘Dry eye’ is a painful condition that can cause blurry vision and other problems; some issues may have long-term negative effects.

    ·         Those who have the great pleasure of living near the ocean and in a sunny locale should be advised to wear a hat with a wide brim in front during the winter in tandem with those special sunglasses. Multiple safety measures to protect your eyes are valuable to prevent future eyesight problems.
