Parents commonly ask at what age and how often do children need eye exams. The recommended ages of eye exams are 6 months, age 3, age 5, and then annual until age 18. The frequency and ages may also change due to anything unusual you or your child may be noticing about their vision. As with a lot of health concerns, the sooner we see the patient, the better chance we have of addressing any permanent problems.
From the beginning, we start by checking visual acuity, peripheral vision, and we evaluate the eyes to ensure there isn’t a weak eye, which could cause double vision. This is how we determine whether or not your child needs glasses, either for nearsightedness or farsightedness.
Most children do very well with eye exams, and look forward to their appointments – Almost as much as we look forward to seeing them! Contact us today to schedule a children’s eye exam!
