Eye Health Eyecare WellnessYear ends are always nostalgic. We sit and wonder where the time has gone while reminiscing over good times (and some bad) from the year that is ending. We think it is a good time to think about what is happening with your eye health as well. Then we, too, will put 2018 to rest as we look forward to the excitement of the new year ahead! In other words, what was new in eye health for the year?

  • Did you know that one company has come up with a chewable version of a vitamin for adults aged 50+ that contain nutrients aimed at maintaining or improving vision? One particular tablet contains no less than six nutrients aimed at eye health and recommended by the National Eye Institute.
  • For those who are suffering from ‘dry eye syndrome’ and similar vision ailments, a heated eye pad is now available over the counter. Unlike compresses that tend to lose their heat quickly and must be reheated, the heated eye pad can be plugged into a USB cord or a direct electric source. They adjust to the shape of your face and heat to a comfortable 104 degrees. This product is fairly new so to learn more about it, speak to your eyecare specialist.
  • If you have ever had to put eye drops in your eyes then you know there is a tendency for the drops to end up on your cheeks instead of the intended target. Well, there is a new device that will help get the eyedrops into your eyes. It’s actually a rudimentary device that attaches to the eye drop bottle using your nose as a balance and positioning the dropper over the eye – centering it and steadying the bottle in a way that better ensures placement of the drops. All the while the device also prevents the actual eye drop bottle from touching your eye, preventing poking and potential eyeball damage.

The world of eye care continues to grow and improve with each passing year. As they say – necessity is the mother of invention and we should all be thankful that someone out there is looking for new and inventive ways to take care of our vision.
