Practice Precautions for Fall Activities
Whether you’re trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, or raking leaves, you’ll want to practice a few precautions with any seasonal activity to prevent eye injuries. If you’re raking the leaves, make sure you wear protective eye gear to keep dirt and particles from getting in your eyes. If you’re painting your face or dressing up for Halloween, use makeup that’s safe to use around the eyes and avoid costume lenses to prevent infection.
Keep Your Sunglasses On
No matter the season, you want to keep your eyes protected from the sun’s harmful rays to preserve your vision. With that said, it’s best to keep your sunglasses handy during the fall. Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection won’t just shield your eyes from UV rays, but they’ll also help you see clearly during the bright, sunny autumn afternoons.
Prevent Seasonal Dry Eyes
Dry eyes become more common as the temperatures get cooler. However, artificial tears can help make sure your eyes stay moisturized and comfortable throughout the season. You can also keep your sunglasses on when you’re outside to shield your eyes from the cold winds. Fall allergies can also contribute to dry eyes. If you suffer from allergies, try putting your windows up while you drive, and minimize airborne allergens in your home with an air purifier to prevent your eyes from getting dry and irritated.
