As the holiday season approaches and winter nears, it’s time for most of us to pull out our cold weather gear. But it’s important to know how to protect our vision during the winter, as well. Here are a few tips to help keep your eyes healthy this upcoming season.
As the outdoor temperatures drop, the air becomes colder and can’t hold as much atmospheric water vapor. Cold winds are also dehydrating to our eyes. Combat dehydrated and irritated eyes with lubricating drops.
Indoor air also becomes dryer when being heated, and recirculated air can contain other dehydrating factors than fresh outdoor air. Be sure to keep your eyes moist and consider wearing eyeglasses more frequently than your contact lenses.
While you might think the end of summer means the end of UV radiation, that’s not the case. UV radiation can also be reflected from the snow and pose a threat to our vision. This is where protective eyewear is especially helpful. Be sure to choose sunglasses with UV protection.
