Summer and UV Rays in Annapolis & Kent Island

Request Appointment

Outdoor activities are popular during the summer months, and they expose our skin and eyes to more and harmful UV rays than most other seasons. You don’t need to be staring directly into the sun for it to affect your eyes, either. The more sun exposure your eyes get over the years, the more it increases your risk of conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

When picking out a pair of sunglasses, UV protection is critical. A protective pair of shades should block at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays. Polarized lenses are equally protective because they block sunlight that reflects off of the surfaces around us. Also important to remember – The bigger the lenses, the more protection they’ll offer.

Need help finding the best sunglasses for your upcoming summer? We’re here to help! We offer a lot of the biggest brands and can help with prescription lenses. And remember, minimizing UV exposure with sunscreen and hats, and limiting exposure during the brightest hours of the days, will also help protect you.
