Many people believe that vision is the most important of the five senses. If you have read other posts on our site, you will find that we have stated up to 80% of all your sensory perceptions occur through vision. As a result, taking care of your eyes should be a top priority on a daily basis. Below you will find a simple checklist that will help you be proactive in your and your family’s eyecare.

• One of the simplest things you can do to care for your vision is to eat right. Leafy green vegetables and items that are filled with Omega 3 fatty acids will help keep you looking on the bright side. By the way, eating right is good for all of the other parts of your body as well!
• Have annual vision checkups. Most vision insurance plans will allow for all family members to have yearly visits to the optometrist. Check your insurance coverage to make sure you don’t miss out on this privilege. If you are having trouble with your vision, don’t wait until your insurance rolls over, however. Your vision is too important to skimp on!
• Do not let allergies linger and upset your vision. All too often people suffer from outdoor allergies during certain times of the year. To avoid this, visit your eye doctor and get professional advice on how this can be controlled. There is never a reason to let your eyesight suffer!
• Purchase and use the proper eye protection for each activity. If you are a do-it-yourselfer around the house, don’t pick up a tool without first putting on your safety goggles. Even if you only intend to paint a wall or drive in a nail, the slightest misstep can cause injury to your eyes. The same is true for the active athlete. Golf? Swim? Racquetball? All of these and other forms of athletic activity can result in an injury to your eyes in an instant. To avoid this possibility, protect your eyes with the proper safety gear before picking up a club, a ball or any other sporting equipment.
